Ruesch Center Advocates for Colorectal Cancer Awareness
Posted in Announcements
The Ruesch Center, MedStar Georgetown, and Georgetown University were thrilled to once again raise awareness about Colorectal Cancer. This year, the Ruesch Center joined colleagues across the hospital in dressing in Blue on March 6th. On March 9th, the Ralph Lauren Center for Cancer Prevention at Georgetown Lombardi tabled to encourage the community to get screened. Dr. Priyanka Kanth and the Gastroenterology team distributed information and got people to sign up for screenings in MedStar Georgetown’s Verstandig lobby on March 20th.
We supported our advocacy partners at Colorectal Cancer Alliance for ScopeItOut on March 22nd, and Dr. Weinberg discussed the value of colorectal cancer research. We also welcomed AliveandKick’n to campus to discuss colorectal and lynch syndrome advocacy with Dr. Claire Conley and Sarah Johnson. Throughout the month, Drs. Marshall and Weinberg were also interviewed by media outlets to discuss the rise in early-onset CRC and the importance of Colorectal Cancer advocacy and funding colorectal cancer research.

“I love my job because it lets me attend events like Scope It Out, which drew a huge crowd, and a session at MedStar Georgetown with the GI Cancer Prevention team—both inspiring and energizing—and I feel privileged to be part of such a caring community, as people learned why and how to get tested and signed up for screenings” said Sarah Johnson, Head of Operations and Patient Experience for the Ruesch Center.
